Master William Roth

Owner & Master Instructor

Master William Roth is the Owner and Master Instructor of Flow Martial Arts in Englishtown. He has been training in martial arts for over 30 years, and holds a 5th Degree Black Belt in a mixed martial arts system, a 4th Degree Black Belt in traditional Taekwondo, and a Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

At 6 years old, he was, what would be politely described as, "a handful". Seeking an activity that would provide an outlet for his energy while also helping to develop self-discipline and self-confidence, his parents enrolled him in Taekwondo classes. He took to it immediately and has been training ever since!

Master Roth began competing in local competitions as a colored belt. His first tournament experience was as a spectator at white belt - where he sat in the stands telling his mother "I could have done this!" It wasn't until Black Belt level that he began to see success as a competitor - in high school he took home many victories at the local level, including becoming the New Jersey State Champion in 2006 for Weapons and All-Around Competitor. During college he competed in open tournaments across the US and even outside of the states, seeing further success in point fighting and weapons divisions. His favorite divisions are Continuous Sparring and Open Weapons.

Outside of martial arts, he is an avid long distance runner.  He has completed several ultramarathons, including 50-mile races, 100-mile races, and a personal best of 157-miles in 47.5 hours.

Master Roth began assisting in classes at 13 years old in Jackson, NJ. He earned his Instructor Certification in Taekwondo while still in high school. He continued to teach during breaks and on weekends throughout his college career at the University of New Haven, where he studied Chemistry and Forensic Science. After graduating with honors, he pursued his passion in teaching Martial Arts full-time. He has been teaching in the Manalapan-Englishtown area for over 20 years, and has experience working with children as young as 3, up to adults age 70 and beyond. His students have included state- and national-level Martial Arts champions, and a high percentage of students who have pursued successful college careers at some of the most prestigious universities in the nation, including the Ivy League. Most important to him are all of his students who work hard in class and work towards developing the respect, discipline, confidence, and commitment that Martial Arts is known for.
